Eaton's new robust range of Ex-pendant light
fittings is suitable for all hazardous environments

Eaton's Crouse-Hinds division offer a range of extremely robust, explosion-protected pendant light fittings for high-pressure lamps. The light fittings are suitable for installation in hazardous gas (Zone 1 and 2) and hazardous dust (Zone 21 and 22) areas or harsh industrial environments.

The EVZ series of Ex-pendant light fittings benefit from a very robust, IP66-protected, metallic design. The light fittings are manufactured in accordance with ATEX directive 94/9/EC and latest Ex-standards IEC/EN 60079, which cover the latest requirements for Ex-apparatus.

A rugged, copper-free, aluminium housing and tempered glass globe mean the light fittings are suitable for installation in harsh industrial environments, where high mechanical impacts may occur, or where high levels of moisture and dust are present. No additional guard is required for the light fitting, although additional stainless steel guards are available. As well as a protection rating of IP66 for wet and dusty environments, the EVZ series is also manufactured from materials that are resistant to chemicals and UV light.

"Not only is the EVZ series mechanically robust, the light fittings are cost effective with a very attractive price-performance ratio," said Klaus Weyer, Product Line Manager Lighting, Crouse-Hinds division. "This means the EVZ series is suitable for applications in oil refineries, offshore oil and gas platforms, chemicals, petrochemicals and sewage treatment plants. For hazardous dust environments, the EVZ series is suitable for installation in flour mills, sugar processing, food processing, wood and metalworking, and other environments where combustible dusts are present."

"In addition, due to a permissible ambient temperature rating of minus forty degrees Centigrade, the explosion-protected EVZ pendant light fitting can be installed in very low temperature applications," he added.

EVZ light fittings are available in wall, ceiling or pole-mounted versions, in two sizes. The small body version covers a power range of high-pressure lamps from 70W up to 150W. The large body version covers a power range of high-pressure lamps from 250W up to 600W. All versions in the EVZ series are suitable for HPS (high pressure sodium) lamps and MH (metal halide) lamps (the 600W version is only available for HPS lamps). Ambient operating temperature range is from -40°C to +55°C.

Due to their low weight, the EVZ light fittings are easy to handle and mount. For individual light distribution, optional external reflectors are available.

Extended range of explosion-protected LED safety torches and chargers

Eaton's Crouse-Hinds division has extended its range of explosion-protected portable safety lamps with a new LED torch series that is certified for use in ATEX Zone 0 hazardous areas. The associated induction charger units for the torch are certified for Zone 1 hazardous areas, providing users with a maintenance-free, multi-functional lighting system for use in almost every hazardous environment.

The new TX40 and TX 20 induction-charged hand lamps can be used safely in Zone 0, 1, and 2 hazardous environments, with the associated CX40 and CX20 induction chargers mounted close by in a Zone 1 area. This means the system is ideal for inspection, maintenance, and repair work that needs to be carried out in potentially explosive Zone 0 atmospheres found in industrial chemicals, petrochemicals, and pharmaceutical plants.

The TX/CX40 and TX/CX20 torch and charger are monitored continuously for any faults via automatic function testing. Any faults are indicated by an LED. This guarantees maximum availability of the lighting system. The intelligent charging method for the torch enables steady, optimum battery charging, and long service life of the rechargeable battery.

"Despite its low power consumption, the high efficiency, impact resistant LED lighting technology of the TX40 and TX20 provides a very high luminous intensity" said Klaus Weyer, Product Line Manager Lighting at Cooper Crouse-Hinds GmbH. "Combined with a lens and reflector, the 3W high efficiency LED produces a bright, uniform luminous flux of 200 lumen at the TX 40 and 114 lumen at the TX 20, which ensures optimum illumination of the work area."

The CX40 and CX20 charger units use an inductive coupling system. When the lamps are plugged into the charger, the lamps are recharged by induction charging. As well as providing a safer system, this contact-free method of recharging means that any corrosion of the contacts due to environmental influences are eliminated. This means the charger can be safely mounted in Zone 1, whilst the torch can be operated in Zone 0.

If the mains power supply to the charger should fail for any reason, an emergency lighting function switches on the plugged in torch automatically - regardless of the position of the switch. Also, in order to ensure that the torch is always in its place, an optional seal point can be provided for securing the torch in the charger.

Next generation Tofino appliance protects plants from Cyber-attacks

Eaton has launched its next generation Tofino industrial security solution. The 9202-ETS MTL security system provides the highest level of network security for process automation applications. The MTL Tofino security system is exceptionally easy to install compared with alternative systems and includes the latest configurator software to protect industrial networks from cyber-security vulnerabilities. This maximises plant uptime and process availability while protecting it from external network attack.

"When Industrial Control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems were not connected they were considered immune to attacks, but the trend towards open standards such as Ethernet TCP/IP and web technologies has seen these systems affected by a growing number of threats," said Roger Highton, product line manager, Eaton. "Traditional firewalls are not designed for control systems or industrial threats, thereby putting essential utilities at risk, and each year, the damage to critical infrastructure from network incidents and cyber-attacks runs into billions of dollars. The MTL 9202-ETS gives process managers in the power, utilities, oil and gas and water and wastewater industries a cost-effective security protection that is highly effective and quick to install."

It supports all popular industrial protocols with the Firewall Loadable Security Module (LSM) which compares network traffic against a set of rules. The new release includes the EtherNet/IP Enforcer LSM for deep packet inspection of EtherNet/IP (CIP) communications.  Tofino can also be configured remotely with the Netconnect LSM, providing further flexibility to the user. Further LSM's can also be specified such as the Modbus enforcer and OPC enforcer LSMs providing deep packet inspection for these key industrial protocols and the Event Logger LSM logs security events and sends alarms.

The 9202-ETS MTL security appliance delivers defence in depth for a wide range of DCS, PLC, SCADA, networking, and automation systems. As it does not have its own IP address, it sits as an invisible device on the network and is designed to stop threats without disrupting the critical process application.

The Tofino system includes a number of templates for use with a wide range of automation protocols to further ease installation. In addition, it provides a number of rules and a test mode, so users can check the proposed configuration will not interfere with the operation of the plant before putting the security appliance into operation. Tofino Configurator checks for missing or invalid rules and suggests solutions, thereby aiding set-up.

The 9202-ETS MTL security appliance has a rugged hardware design suitable for use in harsh and hazardous environments. It has a robust metal housing for DIN rail mounting,

-40°C to +70°C operating temperature ratings together with Class 1 Division 2 and ATEX Zone 2 hazardous area approvals. This ensures it will give years of reliable service, providing secure networks with security zones as per NERC, ANSI/ISA, and IEC standards.
