Markes launches new 'xr' series of thermal desorption instruments

Markes International (Llantrisant, UK) has announced the launch of a new family of thermal desorption instruments for GC-MS at the Analytica 2016 tradeshow in Munich, Germany.

The new products, which form the 'xr' series, pre-concentrate organic vapours sampled using sorbent tubes, canisters and on-line air streams, and as well as options for automation, incorporate powerful new advances that extend the capabilities of analytical laboratories analysing volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs) in air and materials.

Dr Massimo Santoro, Technical Marketing Director at Markes International, says "A key advantage of the new 'xr' series is the extended capability for automated sample splitting and re-collection - a technology pioneered by Markes that allows valuable samples to be re-analysed for method development and compliance with standard methods".

Other key advances are the ability to quantitatively recover compounds from C2 to C44, a new water-management module for on-line monitoring of humid air streams, and redesigned instrument control software.

Santoro says "The new features of the 'xr' series have been developed in response to emerging trends in analytical chemistry, which include the need to analyse more compound types in a single run and the requirement for improved laboratory efficiency. These new products demonstrate that at Markes we're always listening to our customers and developing innovative ways to help them improve performance and productivity at every point in the process of sampling, thermal desorption analysis and data processing".

Markes International (Llantrisant) have released a set of six videos explaining the key features of its TOF-DS™ software package. TOF-DS is an intuitive software platform for control and data-processing of Markes' BenchTOF™ time-of-flight mass spectrometers coupled with coupled with a range of popular gas chromatographs (GCs) and autosamplers. The software has been developed to optimise GC-MS productivity and complement the power and flexibility of BenchTOF instruments.

The new videos, available free-to-view at www.tof-ds.com, each summarise in just a few minutes a key aspect of TOF-DS, which comes as standard with the BenchTOF-HD™ and BenchTOF-Select™ models.

Topics covered by the videos include instrument control, real-time data-processing, and qualitative and quantitative analysis. Also included are an overview of the ChromCompare® module for comparative analysis, and options for customised reporting and library manipulation.
