INSPECTION, TEST AND MEASUREMENT

The system configuration is shown in figure 2 for the User Channels and the Pseudo Channels in order to provide the capability to control the machine as required. The Pseudo corrector inputs are used to provide a path into the control loop of the associated hardware channels. Two scripts have been created to set the various parameters for either bi-axial control or standard independent actuator control. With standard control, the Portable Test Controller supports this scripting and provides for their activation by a single button press.

Wired for precision

Precision Micro, the Midlands based manufacturer of high precision metal components has witnessed an increase in the number of customer requests to incorporate fine, high aspect ratio features in the components it manufactures.

To meet this need, the Company has installed a new high precision CNC driven Wire EDM machine capable of producing precision, high aspect ratio apertures with surface finish down to Ra 0.1µm, which for many applications eliminates the need for subsequent polishing.

To further increase the productivity of an already very efficient machine, Precision Micro has also invested in a low profile, universal, work holding tooling system," said Mick Taylor, Market Development Manager. "By presetting the work piece away from the machine we are able to minimise machine set-up times, improve flexibility and increase our machine utilisation; all of which helps us to be more competitive in the market."

In a recent request for a component incorporating high aspect ratio features, a major opto-electronics customer needed some multi-aperture plates from a 0.50mm thick special stainless material. The item could be manufactured economically using precision etching techniques but the design included a fine radial slot only 0.2mm wide, an aspect ratio outside the capabilities of the etching process. The design also asked for a very high quality cut surface finish and dimensional accuracy of +/-4 microns.

By combining its precision etching and wire EDM processes, Precision Micro was able to meet the demands economically without the need for custom tooling.

Three-in-one pressure sensor cuts installation and equipment costs

A new range of pressure transmitters is now available, which offers three-in-one functionality of a pressure sensor, switch and display, reducing installation and equipment costs for the user.

The DS range of pressure transmitters from Impress Sensors & Systems Ltd provides a combination of a pressure sensor with signal conditioning that provides a current or voltage output signal, one two or four independent PNP transistor switch outputs, as well as a freely scaleable, programmable LED rotating display.

The transmitter is ideal for a wide range of applications, including air, oil and hydraulic pressure applications. Pressure ranges start from 10mbar on the DS210 up to 600bar on the DS200. Several options are available within the DS range, including optional ATEX certification; 1,2 or 4 switch points; analogue output in either 4-20mA, voltage or none; electrical connection; and various types of process connections.

There's also a 3-wire, 4-20mA configuration that enables the user to re-calibrate the output signal. The digital LED display is also scaleable and can be freely rotated through two axes to suit the installation. The brightness of the display can also be adjusted to suit the environment.

The DS range comprises six versions
The DS 210
is a precision electronic pressure switch with silicon sensor that is suitable for measuring gases, compressed air and thin, non-aggressive liquids, including pneumatics and vacuum technology. Pressure range is from 10mbar up to 1,000mbar.

The DS 201 is an electronic pressure switch with a chemically robust ceramic sensor, which is ideal for measurement of viscous or lightly contaminated fluids. Pressure range is from 600mbar through to 600bar. An optional PVDF pressure port is available for aggressive media, where stainless steel is not resistant. There's also an oil and fat-free version for applications with oxygen. The DS 201 is ideally used as a gauge or absolute pressure sensor or absolute pressure switch.

The DS 200 is a piezoresistive, stainless steel sensor similar to the DS 201 ceramic version, but offers higher resolution and over-pressures. Nominal pressure range of the DS 200 is from 100mbar up to 600bar. The sensor can be used in a wide range of pneumatic and hydraulic control applications, offering long term stability and high precision. The sensor can be used with any liquids or gases that are compatible with stainless steel and the O-ring material.

The DS 230 is an OEM digital pressure switch with ceramic sensor and digital display for hydraulic applications. Suitable for a wide range of gases and liquids, the lower cost DS 230 is targeted at OEMs who require less accuracy and no transmission of output from the device, simply a pressure switch with pressure display. Preferred areas of use are machine tools, hydraulic presses and test benches, pumps and plastic processing machines.

The DS 201 P and DS 200 P are ideal for machine builders that supply the process industries, including chemicals, food processing and pharmaceuticals. Stainless steel flush diaphragms are available, as well as recognised process connections, including inch fittings, Tri-clover and dairy clamp connections.

Sheet type silicone thermal gel sheets from AAC feature excellent
control & dissipation of heat in electronic component applications

New sheet type silicone thermal gel sheets from Advanced Antivibration Components (AAC) feature excellent control and dissipation of heat in electronic components. Applications include computer internal components such as CPU, motherboards, power transformers, power supply equipment, and electronic parts such as semiconductors that produce heat. These soft gel sheets are sold in a 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in.) size and are .0.5 mm to 3 mm thick to make for easy and even application. They are a RoHS controlled substance and are usable over a wide temperature range: -40°C to +200°C (-40°F to +392°F). This makes them good electrical insulators and flame retardant UL-94 V-0 approved.

Extended range of fast fit T pieces for cable installation and inspection

Flexible conduit manufacturer Flexicon has extended its range of fast fit T pieces to make cable installation and inspection simpler.

The removable inspection lid helps cable pull through, allows the addition of circuits and also makes future inspection simpler.  Internal corners are rounded to protect the cable insulation during installation and use.

The new range is now available in standard sizes for use with conduits between 16mm to 42mm. There are two versions, the FPA range has an IP66 rating and the FPAX range, which comes supplied with elastomeric seals and is IP66, IP67 and IP68 (2 bar) rated. A range of reducer options makes it very flexible to configure a system.
